DIY Flatlay Product Pictures
Two dimensional never looked so good!
Flatlay pictures are a visually appealing design that allows your product to shine. With very few props and photo editing, you can DIY your very own professional flatlay picture.
In this video, I show you how I used a simple piece of pasteboard to transform my product photos into shareable content.
I used Adobe Lightroom to edit this photo and correct any imperfections to my board. It is a great photo editing app to enhance light and play with color saturation, highlights, contrast, etc.
If you are looking to replace the background, PhotoRoom is an app I have used in the past. It is not that great when there are small details (it couldn’t register the greenery or the necklace) but if you are using simple photos, this is a great free app.
There are also great background options on Amazon that are made for flatlay photography like this one.
Last Minute Tips
Shoot from directly above. This is very important. Have your phone as flat as you possibly can, parallel to the board.
Consider leaving room for text! You can leave space intentionally to add words in for a custom advertisement.
Use odd numbers. It actually balances the photo better (learned it in art school so it has to be real).
Don’t over clutter with props. Less is always more.
Try different positions. It’s ok if you use the same 3 products but experiment with placement.
