Leveraging User-Generated Content

What is better than having beautiful content created for you?

As a content creator, probably nothing, tbh.

What is User Generated Content?

User Generate Content (UGC) is not branded content nor is it created by you. UGC is content (photos, videos, etc) developed by people who are not affiliated with your brand such as customers or even Influencers.

You can source this type of content through most channels of social media including Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube.

Why is User Generated Content Important?

UGC can create more authentic content, showing your product in lifestyle situations. It comes from people that are naturally your customer and a great way to build your brand’s reputation and credibility.

You are also connecting on a more personal level with the users sharing your content, being able to create a more loyal bond.

How to Obtain UGC

It is real easy for major brands to get users to share their product but how can a small business like you get the same quality content?

Two ways to initiate the conversation:

  1. Make it easy for customers to share their experience by putting a fun thank you card with all the details about how to share your product to be featured on your social media account.

  2. Encourage others to post and share your product by giving shout outs in your stories. Tag your top 10 fans to tell them you appreciate them!

Most importantly, always ask for permission. Yes, it may be public but it is always polite to ask for permission to use someone’s content and give credit in the caption.
