Selling Products on Social Media

I have seen a mix of tactics that businesses take to selling their product on social media. Businesses either try to sell their products directly on Instagram or they are a physical store just trying to catch that sale and try too hard at selling. Well, I have news for you.. both kinda suck.

Selling only on social media

I’m just going to cut to the chase and throw it out there: DMing you to purchase is weird and it does not seem like a secure way to check out from a customer’s point of view.

There I said it. So please stop doing it.

There are so many other options to selling your physical product with very little overhead (Etsy, Poshmark, Depop, Mercari) that take a small percentage for each sale. Just bump up your price to cover those costs and more people would buy your product.

Physical brick and mortar stores on social media

For physical brick and mortar stores, having a presence on social media may not result in direct sales but it will raise an awareness for your brand.

Customers want to see authenticity, connectivity, and consistency to humanize your brand. It is a way to present your brand to a person over and over which may lead to someone buying online or making a special trip to your store.

Rely on social media for the real, deep connections you are making with people that are potential customers. Stop trying to sell sell sell all the time. Try posting your favorite products, give a tutorial, or just give them a behind the scenes view of the shop.
